Both the companies have identified land for their projects and would sign MoUs with the state government soon. Besides, three other groups – Lemongreen, Brahmaputra and US-based Newport – have also evinced interest in investing in Odisha, official sources said. “We have discussed the project with different departments of the state government and seen a 12-acre patch near the Infosys. The proposed hotel will have 200 rooms in five star luxury category with an investment of Rs 300 crore,” said managing director of Haldiram Groups Mahesh Agrawal. The company having an annual turnover of Rs 1,000 crores has star hotels in Kolkata, Raipur and Nagpur. “We are also interested in setting up food courts in Cuttack, Puri and Sambalpur,” Agrawal added. The ITC Fortune has identified a patch of six acres along National Highway-5. “The hotel will be in five star plus category with 100 rooms. The estimated investment would be over Rs 100 crores and the project is expected to be ready in three years,” said Suresh Kumar, managing director, ITC Fortune. The investors announced these projects at the 50th convention of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) here on Saturday. Bhubaneswar has only two hotels in five star category. President of FHRAI, T S Walia said, “The Newport Group has shown interest in developing facilities on 400 acres under the Shamuka Tourism Project in Puri. Odisha has huge potential for hospitality industry and with the proactive government the industry is quite enthusiastic to invest here.” Tourism secretary L N Gupta said, “Several hotel groups want to set up hotels in the state.
